Ravens reportedly tell Derrick Henry they have “no intention” of trading him

Ravens running back Derrick Henry’s production has plummeted since quarterback Lamar Jackson was first injured before halftime in a Week 4 win over the Titans. And the Ravens have now lost four games in a row.

After Thursday night’s 33-10 loss to the Jaguars, a clearly frustrated Henry (who rarely displays frustration publicly), said he hasn’t mentioned going elsewhere as the trade deadline looms.

Now there’s this, from Adam Schefter of ESPN: “The Ravens recently informed Henry that they have no intention of trading him, according to league sources.”

If “no intention” is used in that assertion in the same way that multiple teams have used “no intention” in the past, a trade remains possible. Because intentions can change.

The Ravens traded for quarterback Jacoby Brissett in an effort to salvage a potential playoff season. Even after Thursday night’s game (which was only the second Jacksonville win in Baltimore since 2000), the Ravens are 4-5 and very much alive for a playoff berth.

In our view, the Ravens would trade Henry only if he made a passionate and compelling case to be traded — and if the Ravens are already considering moving on from the soon-to-be 33-year-old tailback after the 2026 season.

Henry has two former head coaches on current playoff contenders. Former Titans coach Mike Vrabel leads the 5-3 Patriots. Former Ravens coach John Harbaugh runs the 4-2-1 Giants.

The Patriots are without Treveyon Henderson, who will miss his second straight game after developing a sudden and unexplained illness. And the Giants have been linked to Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.

So unless “no intention” means “no way,” it’s still a possibility. At least until 4:00 p.m. ET arrives on Tuesday.
