Rayalaseema Records Heavy Rains; Raptadu Receives Highest 102.2 mm Rainfall

ANANTAPUR: Various parts of Rayalaseema region have been receiving heavy rains since Saturday. Anantapur district received a total rainfall of 854.6 mm in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, with an average rain of 26.7 mm across 32 mandals.

Raptadu mandal in Anantapur district registered the highest rainfall of 102.2 mm, while Yadiki mandal stood second with 63.4 mm of rainfall, followed by Anantapur Rural at 62.4 mm and Anantapur Urban at 60.2 mm.

Due to the rainfall, low-lying areas in Anantapur Urban and Rural have been inundated.

Dharmavaram mandal in Satya Sai district received the maximum rainfall in Satya Sai district. Of the 32 mandals, 16 recorded moderate rain between 15.6 mm and 64.4 mm, while nine mandals received light rain ranging from 2.5 mm to 15.5 mm0. Very light rain has been reported in Kalyandurg (1.2 mm) and Rayadurg (2.4 mm).

In the wake of these rains, farmers have begun preparations for raising their Kharif crops, in particular groundnut, which is expected to be raised over 7 lakh hectares.

Anantapur and Satya Sai district administrations have started opening groundnut seed selling centres. Farmers are hoping for good returns from the Kharif season.
