The modernised Rayanapadu railway station, redeveloped under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of more than `35 crore, is all set to be inaugurated on July 17, marking a significant milestone in strengthening railway infrastructure in the Vijayawada region.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Chinni said the station’s redevelopment was completed through his continuous follow-up and coordination with railway authorities. He said the upgraded station would serve as an alternative satellite terminal to the heavily congested Vijayawada Junction and improve passenger convenience while supporting future traffic growth.
The MP said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had envisioned the modernisation of railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to provide world-class facilities for passengers. He added that all physical and financial targets of the Rayanapadu station redevelopment had been completed, with 100 per cent progress achieved.
The revamped station has been equipped with modern passenger amenities, including a new air-conditioned prepaid waiting hall, modular toilets with separate facilities for persons with disabilities, upgraded ticket counters, drinking water facilities, a renovated station master’s office and improved platform sheds.
Platform No. 1 has been modernised at a cost of `13.33 crore, with surface improvements carried out across its 670-metre length and eight-metre width. Tactile pathways have also been laid to assist visually challenged passengers.
A new 340-metre-long platform shelter has been constructed at a cost of `6.38 crore to provide protection from sun and rain. Two modern lifts, installed on the foot overbridge at a cost of `5.77 crore, now connect Platform No. 1 with Platforms 2 and 3, making movement easier for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other passengers.
The station building has been renovated with modern lighting, artistic installations, ramps, tactile tiles and enhanced accessibility features. Existing foot overbridges have also been upgraded to meet passenger requirements.
Passenger safety has received special attention with the construction of a 483-metre compound wall, wider entry and exit gates, improved landscaping, pedestrian pathways, street lighting and lane markings. The redevelopment also includes a 1,657-square metre circulation area and a 651-square metre parking facility.
The station’s surroundings have been beautified with greenery and decorative Kondapalli toy-themed paintings, adding a distinct regional identity to the premises.
Railway officials said around 12 trains would operate through Rayanapadu every day, with some express trains also scheduled to halt at the station. As the facility develops into an important satellite terminal for Vijayawada, passenger traffic is expected to increase substantially in the coming years.
