Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal is set to miss next week’s Clasico with Barcelona after the club confirmed he had suffered a fractured toe.

Carvajal last featured as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Alaves on April 21. He was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw at Real Betis three days later.

A statement from Madrid explained that Carvajal had “been diagnosed with a fracture of the distal phalanx of the fifth toe on his right foot”.

No timetable was provided for his return, however, he is expected to be out for two weeks.

Real Madrid’s Carvajal set to miss Clasico

As such, Carvajal seems likely to miss Madrid’s next four games, including a Clasico with Barcelona next Sunday.

Barca could be crowned champions with a draw in that game if both they and Madrid win their matches this weekend. Madrid face Espanyol on Sunday, while Barcelona take on Osasuna on Saturday.

Should the Blaugrana prevail and Madrid fail to win at Espanyol, then Barca will be champions on Sunday.

Carvajal could return for Madrid’s season finale at home to Athletic Club, which may be a farewell for the full-back.

Indeed, Carvajal is out of contract at the end of the campaign, having spent all but one season of his career with the club. Madrid exercised a buy-back option to purchase him from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013. He has since made 448 appearances for Los Blancos, winning 26 trophies including four LaLiga titles and six Champions League crowns.
