The IPL 2026 has witnessed legends, but few have shaken the tournament quite like 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. In a season filled with jaw dropping knocks, the Rajasthan Royals opening batter re-wrote history.
During the eliminator game against Sun Risers Hyderabad, Sooryavanshi played an aggressively tremendous knock of 97 runs in just 29 balls, just 1 hit away from breaking Chris Gayle’s iconic 100 runs in just 30 balls during the IPL 2013. However, the opener unfortunately lost his wicket on the 29th ball of his inning and missed the record of fastest IPL T-20 century.
But even without the century, Sooryavanshi rewrote several IPL records created by the legends of the game, including Chris Gayle’s one of the most iconic milestones. He surpassed Gayle’s 14-year old record of most number of sixes in an IPL season and now sits alone at the top with 65 maximums. He hammered 12 sixes during his explosive innings, repeatedly sending the ball deep into the stands. The legend of the game and SRH captain- Pat Cummins himself conceded 4 sixes to the teenage-prodigy and ended with unforgettable figures of 0 for 64 in 4 overs. SRH bowlers had no answer to Sooryavanshi’ bat.
