
Vijayawada: Today, July 4, marks the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, a name that needs no introduction.
Popularly known as Manyam Veerudu, he dedicated his life to protecting the rights of tribal communities.
He led the Rampa Rebellion against British rule and opposed the Madras Forest Act, which restricted the traditional rights of tribal people over forests. Alluri Sitarama Raju used guerrilla warfare.
He was just 27 years old when he was executed by the British.
