Nalgonda: Telangana State Legislative Council chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Sunday urged the Telangana government to reconsider appointing retired officers to key posts, stating that such decisions reduce employment opportunities for unemployed youth.

Speaking to mediapersons at his camp office in Nalgonda, he said the government should desist from appointing retired officials and prioritise providing jobs to the unemployed.

He expressed concern over corruption “from low level to highest level” and called for comprehensive reforms to address it. He said corruption in land matters had not reduced despite the introduction of Bhu Bharathi in place of Dharani.

Emphasising the state’s financial condition, Reddy called for austerity measures and questioned the need for spending large sums on setting up model schools when sufficient schools already exist.

He also said people should work towards financial self-sufficiency instead of depending on government welfare schemes. Opposing the extension of Rythu Bharosa to non-cultivated lands, he said the agriculture department should identify cultivated land and restrict investment support to those areas.

He advised farmers to consider crop diversification and avoid excessive use of urea.

Referring to elections, he said candidates for MLA and MP seats were spending large sums of money and called on the Election Commission of India to introduce stricter norms to curb such practices.

He added that earlier, candidates with strong public connect contested elections, but now contractors, realtors and retired officers were increasingly entering politics.
