The Office and After Life star Ricky Gervais has sold his country retreat after revealing he’s going to wed his long-term partner for tax reasons
Comedian Ricky Gervais has sold his £2.95million country retreat, ahead of his wedding to long-term partner Jane Fallon.
The 65 year old put the property, located in Buckinghamshire, on the market recently, before finding a buyer within days, says the Mail. He was granted plans after a two-year battle to demolish the property and build a “Grand Designs” style mansion in its place, but he has instead decided to sell up.
The pictures of the four-bedroom detached home show its enviable location on the River Thames and the land includes a private mooring, tennis court and huge gardens. Ricky’s main home is a multi-million pound mansion in Hampstead.
The house news comes after he revealed he is planning to marry Jane, after 44 years together, to avoid paying inheritance tax.
When recently asked whether tax is a good reason to marry, he replied: “It is. And that will be the reason I marry. But if it wasn’t for that… why? It’s mad.
“How more married can you be? We share all our money, we’ve been living together for 40 years. Some marriages don’t last a year.”
He added: “It’s horrible isn’t it? I’ve got to get around to marrying, before I die.”
The Office actor’s change of heart came after Jane revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Back in March, the 65 year old said: “About a month ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer — very early stage thankfully & the prognosis is excellent.”
She then said she has received the diagnosis after a routine mammogram and had no symptoms.
The author then said she was due to undergo surgery. After a second op in April, Jane told her Instagram followers: “So, my second surgery went well. They got the clear margin they need on the original excision, which is great. They did hit a new little patch of precancerous cells on the other side of the new bit they took out but, thankfully, everyone agrees more surgery would be overkill.”
The novelist then explained she would be having some follow up treatment, such as medication after ruling our radiotherapy and more surgery.
“I’m very nervous about going the drug route, because I know the side effects can be hideous, but I’m taking all the info on board & luckily there’s no pressure to make a quick decision,” she said.
