Rod Stewart has cancelled the remainder of his US tour as he reveals that he had to get heart surgery – but as this was billed as a ‘Farewell Tour’, does this mean the singer has retired for good?

Concern has poured out for Rod Stewart after the 81-year-old shared that he had to cancel the rest of his US tour after undergoing herat surgery.
The singer, who has been on the road with his One Last Time tour, underwent a coronary stent procedure, cutting short his dates for the rest of the year that were expected to continue into September.
He will now need to take four weeks off to recover, but it the singer’s previous comments are anything to go by it won’t be much longer before fans see the rocker again.
Fans had feared the latest health blow could mean Rod will retire completely from performing, especially as this tour was billed as a ‘farewell tour’ where the singer would say goodbye to performing in large-scale arenas, opting for smaller venues in the future.
One fan said: “Really was a FAREWELL TOUR”. Another added: “Perhaps time to give it up dawg.” While a third said: “Maybe now that Rod Stewart has had heart surgery, and cancelling some of his shows he should think about giving up singing, and spend time with his wife and all his children.”
But, it seems that Rod himself has no plans of stopping anytime soon.
Not long after the update, Rod said: “Im already feeling better and very much on the mend. I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me.
“I’m deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon. Rod.”
Taking to Instagram last year, Rod said: I shall never retire!” He defiantly told fans: “I was put on this earth to be a singer and will keep doing so for as long as the good lord lets me.” After a glittering career spanning several decades, Rod would be forgiven for putting his feet up and enjoying his time. However, he has been blazing on with his live music – that included a stop by at Glastonbury Festival in 2025 for the ‘legends’ slot.
“I just wish they wouldn’t call it the tea time slot,” he complained at the time.. “That sounds like pipe and slippers, doesn’t it?”
Previously speaking about his mortality, Rod said: “I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear. We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.”
The tour cancellation comes after Rod axed a several shows at the last minute. He pulled out of his gig in Cincinnati just a few hours before it was due to start, saying: “Due to an unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention, Rod Stewart’s performance tonight in Cincinnati has been postponed.”
Likewise, his show in Niagara Falls was cancelled on the same day it was supposed to happen due to an issue with the plane that was supposed to take him to the arena. That cancellation came only a few weeks after he cancelled a show in Chula Vista due to a “respiratory infection”, only to appear at the World Cup later that day.
This sparked a swathe of controversy and he did admit afterwards that it “wasn’t a good look” but said he wanted to go for his two sons, Alastair, 20, and Liam, 31, who he didn’t want to “let down”.
May also saw Rod cancel two shows in Las Vegas whilst he recovered from a sinus infection. But he wasn’t the only start to cancel a gig this week, as Barry Manilow, 83, cancelled a Kentucky show this week due to “unforseen circumstances”. He said in a statement: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, tonight’s show in Lexington has been rescheduled.”
