They say the transfer market never sleeps. In a world constantly bombarded by status updates and breaking news, it can be hard to tune out the transfer noise and focus on the actual football, to the point where it sometimes feels like the sport itself is nothing more than a minor distraction in between Here We Go updates.
In the case of AS Roma and Real Madrid forward Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa, not only has this rumor never gone to bed; it appears stuck on a loop. Two months after missing out on the Los Blancos U-20 sensation, the Giallorossi have circled back to the kid affectionately known as Endrick, with multiple sources in Europe claiming the two sides will return to the bargaining table in January.

While raising €100 million footballers is nothing new to Real Madrid, every now and then, Los Merengues need a little help applying the finishing touches to their most prized assets. Whether it’s Nico Paz becoming a world-beater with Como or Franco Mastantuono harnessing his considerable skills with Fiorentina, Italian clubs have found great success incubating talents for Real Madrid.
As talented as Paz and Mastantuono are, Endrick may take the cake. Appearing on numerous top prospect lists over the past several years, including ESPN FC and The Guardian’s Next Generation countdown, Endrick has been under the spotlight for several years now, prompting the Spanish club to pay an incredible €47.5 million to acquire his rights from Palmeiras in 2024.
Given their investment in Endrick, Real Madrid has been treating the now-20-year-old with kid gloves. After spending his first season in Spain on the sidelines, Endrick finally got his chance to shine, spending the 2025-2026 season on loan with Lyon, bagging five goals and seven assists in 16 Ligue 1 appearances.
After such a promising season, Real had a bit of an Endrick problem: Was it better to renew his loan, or roll the dice and hope he could crack the rotation under new/old manager José Mourinho at the Bernabéu?

For a brief moment this summer, Madrid seemed to be leaning toward the former, arranging a loan deal with Roma. However, for reasons unknown, Mourinho nixed the deal at the last minute, leaving Endrick’s fate twisting in the wind and Roma holding the bag as yet another pacy left winger slipped through their fingers.
However, according to the Corriere dello Sport, Endrick may still make his way to the Eternal City, as the two clubs are reportedly discussing a January loan for the Brazilian winger. The CdS reports that, while Madrid aren’t likely to let him go for less than €50 million, Roma may be open to a purely temporary move for Endrick, though that won’t prevent them from attempting to arrange a loan with an option or obligation to buy.
The Corriere dello Sport expects the negotiations to pick up when Real Madrid plays Roma at the Stadio Olimpico later this month in the Champions League, so expect plenty of updates later this month.
Stay tuned!
