Rs 4,150 Cr Development Plan Approved For Pandharpur

The decision was taken at the Pandharpur Pilgrimage Site Development Plan Apex Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai. He directed the state officials that the comprehensive development of Pandharpur pilgrimage should be completed within 30 months, keeping in mind future requirements for the next 50 years.

According to state officials, the development plan aims to transform Pandharpur into a well-planned and sustainable pilgrimage destination with modern infrastructure while preserving its religious and cultural significance.

Pandharpur is one of Maharashtra’s most important pilgrimage centres, which is visited by lakhs of warkaris or devotees of Lord Vitthal during major religious events such as Ashadhi and Kartiki ekadashis, Chaitri and Maghi yatras every year.

The major development works at Pandharpur include construction of corridors for crowd management; conservation and restoration of ancient temples and monasteries; development of facilities for pilgrims and local residents; beautification of river ghats; development of roads, bridges and parking facilities and creation of commercial complexes and public amenities.

Out of Rs 4,150.46 crore outlay, Rs 735.80 crore will be spent for crowd management, heritage conservation and pilgrim facilities; Rs 1,387.91 crore for roads, ghats, parking, urban development and related works and Rs 2,026.75 crore for land acquisition, rehabilitation and compensation.

Fadnavis said that the development work should ensure a clean, safe and less crowded environment, while also improving the overall spiritual experience for growing number of devotees in Pandharpur.
