Namakkal (Tamil Nadu) : An 18-year-old youth died after he got trapped between a wheel of a moving temple chariot and an adjacent wall during a festival in Namakkal district on Sunday, officials said. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay expressed deep grief and anguish over the youth’s tragic demise.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 am during the car festival of the Arulmigu Arthanareeswarar Temple in Tiruchengode.

The victim, identified as Harshavardhan (18), son of Govindaraja, got trapped between a wheel of the moving temple chariot and an adjacent wall, sustaining severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to the Tiruchengode Government Hospital for first-aid and subsequently taken to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for advanced care, where he succumbed to injuries.

Another youth, identified as Sashidharan (19), son of Gowrishankar, was also injured in the same mishap and is currently undergoing treatment.

Extending his profound condolences to the bereaved family and relatives, the chief minister announced an immediate financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund, an official release said.

He also directed medical authorities to ensure that specialised, high-quality treatment is provided to the injured youth.
