NELLORE: The tribal welfare department has proposed a ₹750-crore five-year development plan for improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment and livelihoods among tribal communities in Nellore district.
The proposals were discussed at the 11th Governing Body meeting held at the ITDA office here on Monday, where 23 issues related to the comprehensive development of tribal communities were reviewed.
Tribal welfare department director S. Sada Bhargavi said priority would be given to roads, housing and basic amenities in tribal habitations, besides achieving 100 per cent enrolment in Gurukulam and ashram schools. A dedicated database would track students after Class X and provide guidance for higher education, vocational courses and skill training.
The department also plans to identify unemployed Yanadi youth and provide modern skill training, with about ₹1 crore proposed for the initiative. Agriculture, fisheries and horticulture-based livelihood opportunities would be promoted to reduce migration.
More than 15,000 tribal people without Aadhaar had already been provided Aadhaar services, while special drives would cover the remaining beneficiaries, Sada Bhargavi said.
Resources would also be mobilised through CSR, PPP and convergence of funds from various departments.
Speaking at the meeting, Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said all 92 Gurukulam schools under the ITDA had achieved full enrolment, while the Class X pass percentage stood at 97 per cent. He said 259 students had qualified for IIT, IIIT and JEE Main.
Reddy called for special measures to protect tribal lands, extend Scheduled Area benefits to the Nellore ITDA and utilise industrial CSR funds for tribal habitations and employment generation. He also suggested that ITDA Governing Body meetings be held once every six months.
