Warangal: The statewide strike by the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) workers entered its second day on Thursday, with employees continuing their protest amid heavy police deployment at bus depots in the erstwhile Warangal district.
The government attempted to resume operations by deploying a constable with each bus, while workers gathered early at depots to prevent vehicles from leaving. Public transport services were severely affected, forcing commuters to rely on private operators.
In Jangaon district, police supervised efforts to move buses out of the depot and made arrests during the protest. Union members said the agitation would continue until their demands are addressed.
In Mahabubabad district, police were deployed at the Thorrur depot and cases were registered against 21 employees for not reporting to work. Several others were taken into custody while arriving at depots.
RTC labour union leaders demanded release of detained employees and opposed the police action. The disruption to services has left commuters dependent on private transport as the standoff continues.
