This is all new for Ruben Prey — new role and with it comes new expectations.
After serving as Zuby Ejiofor’s backup the previous two seasons, he is St. John’s starting center. The forward from Portugal admitted there are “responsibilities” that go along with increased minutes.
Perhaps that is part of the reason he has started slowly, struggling in the preseason with foul trouble and managing just two points, four rebounds and three turnovers in the regular-season opener Monday.
“I was definitely mad after the game because I do have high standards for myself,” Prey said Wednesday ahead of practice at the Garden. “I wouldn’t say my confidence is affected by it. I had a great practice yesterday, working hard today and prepare for the next game.”
