Rylan Clark was asked some tough questions when he appeared on new ITV show, The Assembly, in which the interviewers are autistic and neurodivergent

Rylan Clark was left gobsmacked when asked about his pals getting ‘cancelled’ on ITV’s new show, The Assembly. The seasoned star, 36, was probed in the experimental programme, which launched last month, in which the interviewers are autistic and neurodivergent.

Radio 2 star, Rylan, counts a whole host of famous faces as friends. However, earlier this year, his former colleague, Scott Mills, 53, was sacked by the BBC due to allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy, which were reported in 2016. Mills has since stated that he co-operated with the police investigation and has plans to sue the BBC for unfair dismissal.

Rylan, who used to present the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Scott, has made no comment about his friend’s dismissal. However, he gasped when asked about the fate of some of his celebrity pals on The Assembly.

“How do you cope when one of your celebrity friends is cancelled?”, interviewer, Jacob, asked as Rylan looked stunned before gathering himself.

Exhaling slowly, he mused: “It’s really tough… Especially because some of them are not just my work friends – they’re genuinely, like, close friends. At the end of the day, if someone’s done something wrong, then I understand why they can’t carry on doing what they’re doing.”

While Rylan didn’t share names, he continued: “But I do feel today that we live in a world where people will wanna go for you and cancel you for the sake of just doing it, because they can.”

He then urged people to look beyond what they ‘hear or read’, adding that they shouldn’t be ‘frightened to ask why’ certain decisions are made. As Jacob walked off Rylan joked: “God, this is like a lucky dip. You just don’t know what’s coming next, do you?”

His comments come after the likes of Mills’ other colleagues were reportedly left ‘shell-shocked’ when he was sacked.

Rylan is the latest celebrity to be grilled on The Assembly. As well as being asked about ‘cancel culture’, he was also probed about his ex-husband, Dan Neal, who Rylan admitted to cheating on before they divorced.
