Radio presenter Rylan Clark has joked he will “cry myself to sleep” over his co-star’s less than complimentary reaction to his major change.
The BBC Radio 2 host discussed a huge change to his look, but one of his co-star’s immediate reaction was “I’m not sure”.
Rylan, 37, recently cut his hair off, which he hid under a baseball cap in the studio. He joked that the surprised reactions of his colleagues means he will “cry myself to sleep”.
Sally Boazman, who reads the traffic on Rylan’s show, was instantly taken aback by the major change. Upon hearing the news she said: “I’m not sure. I love it when it was flowing.”
Sally’s reaction led Rylan to joke: “Are you not? Thanks Sal. Filled me with confidence. It’s just got to the point where I thought why not? Sally hates it, I can tell by her face.”
Another of Rylan’s colleagues said she was getting “army vibes” from the new haircut, setting up the presenter to joke “Saving Private Rylan” in reference to the hit Hollywood film.
Someone else said the change makes Rylan look even more like the French football player Olivier Giroud. One of his co-star’s then mentioned how a recent guest likened Rylan to one of the puppets from Thunderbirds.
The DJ finished the segment by saying: “You know what, I feel really good about myself. I just thought I was going to have a change, shows you shouldn’t really doesn’t it?
“Sally screwed her face up at me. Let’s meet today’s first contestant before I cry myself to sleep.”
Later in the show, two listeners, David and Ian, messaged the show to say: “Hi Rylan, really looking forward to seeing the new haircut,” before Rylan added: “I totally forgot I’d done it.”
It comes after Rylan’s mum Linda begged him to “stop” as he exposed an “embarrassing” moment live on air.
The former X Factor contestant often invites his mum to appear on his BBC Radio 2 show on Saturdays. On one such occasion Rylan told a hilarious anecdote about the events leading up to a family wedding.
Linda was attending their cousin Christopher’s nuptials and had a very specific request for her son on the day of the wedding. Rylan shared the request with his Radio 2 listeners, causing Linda to beg him to “stop” before he shared the “embarrassing” moment.
While Rylan was sharing the story, Linda said: “No, stop it’s embarrassing.” Rylan disagreed, saying: “It’s not embarrassing, I think it’s quite fun.”
He continued: “I want to prelude this with ‘we’re very normal’. This is the world my mum lives in. So she’s going to a wedding yesterday, our cousin Christopher, congratulations to the pair of them.
“And she goes: ‘Are you near a Chanel?’ And I go: ‘I’m at the flat at the minute, what’s wrong?’ ‘You can’t pop in there and pick me up a gold bag?’ I said: ‘Sorry?’ And she went: ‘Yeah, like a little one you bought me last year.’ And I say: ‘The black one that you never use?’ And I say: ‘Sorry, mum do you know how much a Chanel bag costs?'”
Linda then begged her son not to finish the story, saying: “Please don’t tell everyone.”
