Two derbies played in the Spanish League’s 8th round lacked excitement.
Barceloneta and Sabadell demolished their rivals.
Barceloneta beat Terrassa 21:5 to remain the only unbeaten team. The European champion led 12:1 at halftime and didn’t slow down in the next 16 minutes. Max Casabella led Barceloneta with five goals.
After seven rounds, Barceloneta and Barcelona had perfect 7 – 0 records.
But Barcelona wasn’t close to winning its game in the 8th round. Sabadell recovered from the last week’s defeat to Barceloneta and beat Barcelona 16:8. Sabadell opened the match with a 3:0 run. Barcelona managed to cut its deficit to one goal twice (3:4 and 4:5). Sabadell kept control. It built an 8:4 lead in the first half and killed all Barcelona’s hopes with a 4:0 third period. Sergi Cabanas scored four goals for Sabadell. Carrio and Averka followed him with three each.
The remaining four matches were close contests. Sant Andreu earned valuable three points with a narrow 16:15 win over Mataro and caught up in points with Terrassa.
