HYDERABAD: Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC), in collaboration with the city police, organised the certification ceremony for the first cohort of the Margadarshak programme and launched its second batch here on Sunday. The community-driven initiative aims to build a network of trained volunteers and safety ambassadors to strengthen citizen participation in public safety, women’s safety, cyber awareness, emergency response and community engagement.

Officials said over 80 participants completed the training modules and earned certification under the first cohort. Encouraged by the response, authorities launched the second batch, which has already enrolled 280 participants.

Addressing the gathering, Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, who also serves as chairman of HCSC, said public safety was a collective responsibility and initiatives like Margadarshak helped build stronger ties between police and citizens. He said trained volunteers would act as force multipliers and help bridge gaps between victims and support systems such as SHE Teams, Bharosa Centres and Cyber Crime units.

Sajjanar also announced a police mentors programme under which a designated constable in every police station would mentor Margadarshaks and offer guidance. He said the initiative, coupled with Spandana and the All Women First Responder System, would strengthen safety networks across schools, colleges, offices and gated communities.
