
Trouble is brewing for CI Nagaraju, suspended in connection with Gade Sai Krishna missing case, as the Task Force police began his interrogation. Since Sunday morning, police cordoned off Nagaraju’s house at Singh Nagar. The SIT constituted to probe into the case had already recorded statements from several people, collected crucial evidences and CCTV footage. There is information that Nagaraju is likely to be arrested after the interrogation.
Allegedly, 25-year-old Sai Krishna was taken into custody by the Krishnalanka CI Nagaraju on May 9 and he has been missing since then. His mother Vijayalakshmi filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, which directed the NTR Commissionerate police to produce Sai Krishna by June 29. His family alleged that Krishna died due to severe torture and his body was cremated secretly by the police to destroy evidence.
The state government had taken an important decision in Sai Krishna’s case. It constituted an SIT to investigate into the allegations of illegal custody, custodial torture and murder against Nagaraju. Identifying the gravity of the situation and sensitivity of the case, the DGP proposed that the SIT should constitute police personnel outside the NTR police commissionerate limits. Accordingly, Chief Secretary Sai Prasad issued orders constituting the SIT with senior police officers, and appointed IG (law and order) M. Ravi Prakash as the SIT chief and Sitaramaraju District SP Amit Bardar, Bapatla district additional SP L. Sudhakar as the members. Additionally, the SIT was given the authority to seej additional staff, technical and forensic assistance from other departments, if required. The government also directed all departments, forensic organization to cooperate with the SIT, and help in early completion of the probe.
During the last two days, Task Force teams have been investigating the staff at the Krishna Lanka police station. Their statements are being recorded to collected key evidences, under the supervision of ACP Daiva Prasad. The statements are being recorded with e-sakshya, a tamper-proof tool developed by the Union Home ministry.
Following allegations that Sai Krishna’s body was cremated in the crematorium, the Task Force team interrogated the staff there. On Saturday, Patamata CI Pawan Kishore reached Swargapuri in Krishna Lanka and examined the computer and inspected the log book to collect information about the bodies creamted on particular dates. The mobile phones of operator Basha and burial ground guard Siva were seized and they were interrogated.
Details of the last rites performed to unclaimed bodies between May 23 and 26 were also recorded. It is learnt that bodies of two unidentified people, aged 45 and 50 years, were shifted to Swargapuri on May 23 night. The bodies were picked up from the bus station and Kalimatha temple. As the staff at the crematorium opposed placing the bodies on the premises, following the division sanitary inspector’s recommendation, they were placed in freezers and then cremated on May 24 afternoon.
