Saif Ali Khan has shared how the blockbuster Dhurandhar franchise, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, has fundamentally shifted his outlook on filmmaking and music. The action thrillers, which dominated the box office between late 2025 and early 2026, have made such a huge impact on him that he believes the industry can now be divided into two different eras.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Saif said, “I see a time before Dhurandhar and a time after. It’s up to us whether we catch up or not and wake up or not. It seems like an obvious idea to make amazing music rather than creating a new album for each film, and to draw on all kinds of things from all around the world, while not being too frightened of English also.”
A key element of this shift for Saif was the franchise’s approach to music. Composed by Shashwat Sachdev, the songs were designed to blend seamlessly into the story rather than serving as standalone promotional tracks. According to Saif, this method makes musical sequences feel more immersive and believable, offering a blueprint that could influence how songs are used in future cinema.
Saif specifically highlighted the track Shararat, which features Ayesha Khan and Krystle D’Souza, as a revolutionary piece of work. The song, which appears during the wedding celebrations of Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza, impressed him because it unfolds naturally alongside the story.
Talking about the impact of this storytelling choice, Saif said, “Something as revolutionary as that, imagine if that was to change the way of hiring a beautiful leading lady to do an item for you. If you just treat it as a song and have these two girls performing as you would in a wedding, it doesn’t jar the eyes at all.”
The Dhurandhar franchise, which began in December 2025 with the first part followed by Dhurandhar: The Revenge in March 2026, has been one of the biggest commercial success stories in recent Indian cinema.
