The New Orleans Saints waited over half a season to see what 2026 first-round pick Jordyn Tyson could bring to the team. Well, Tyson finally made his NFL debut in Week 9 and very quickly had his welcome to the NFL moment.

That moment came on Tyson’s first-ever NFL catch. With the Saints on the Cleveland Browns’ 11-yard line, Tyson hauled in a nine-yard grab from Tyler Shough. The rookie very nearly scored on the play, diving forward to try and get into the end zone.

But as Tyson was falling to the ground, Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger punched the ball out of Tyson’s hands, leading to a fumble.

Unfortunately for Tyson, the ball was recovered by the Browns at the 1-yard line. The play was reviewed and upheld upon replay. Tyson’s first-ever NFL catch ended in a lost fumble at the literal 1-yard line.

Big things were expected of Tyson when the team made him the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. But Tyson sustained a hamstring injury during a training camp practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That injury kept Tyson sidelined for the Saints’ first seven games of 2026. After missing multiple weeks, Tyson was able to return to practice Wednesday, paving the way for his debut.

Things didn’t start out well for the rookie. Thankfully, he should have plenty of time to make up for his early mistake.
