Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar appreciated three citizens, who courageously caught an accused and handed him over to the police for sexually harassing a minor girl.
He felicitated Sejal, Ganapathi, and Kashinath and presented them appreciation certificates along with cash rewards at Old Commissionerate office in Basheerbagh. On April 14, while Sejal was traveling on a bike with her friend Ganapathi from Yusufguda towards Madhapur, they noticed a man behaving indecently with a girl near Jubilee Hills Road No. 10.
On seeing this, they came to the rescue of the girl with the help two passersby Kashinath and Sri Narayana. They not only safely rescued the girl but also informed Dial 100 and handed the accused over to the police.
During the police investigation, the accused was identified as Javed, a resident of Yusufguda. When the girl’s parents had gone for daily wage work, he lured the child offering to buy her ice cream and then harassed her. Jubilee Hills police registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and remanded him to judicial custody
Speaking on the occasion, Sajjanar praised the youngsters for acting with presence of mind and social responsibility. He said their courage sends a great message to society and that if citizens remain alert in protecting women and children, such dangers can be prevented.
He said that no matter how much effort the police make in controlling crime, the system becomes stronger only when supported by public awareness. He called on everyone to become public police.
He also recalled a recent incident in the Golconda where a person named Mohammed Firoz similarly rescued an eight-year-old girl. Sajjanar urged the people not to be afraid when they notice any suspicious incidents in society, but to immediately call Dial 100 or inform the Hyderabad Police WhatsApp number 94906 16555, and stand as responsible citizens.
