Arsenal still do not know the severity of Bukayo Saka’s injury, with Mikel Arteta revealing the winger is set for an MRI scan on Friday.
Saka was forced off during the first half of Arsenal’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
The England forward played just 10 minutes at the Allianz Arena before limping off with an injury Arteta conceded “does not look good at all”.
Saka has a checkered injury history and his latest setback figures to serve as a significant blow to Arsenal’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title and challenging to lift the Champions League for the first time.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Everton, Arteta said of Saka: “He’s going for an MRI this afternoon because he had a lot of fluid in the area so it was difficult to understand the severity of the injury. We will know tomorrow.
“We need a few more scans and opinions from the specialists, when a player is struggling to walk off the pitch and he’s restricted in his movement, they are not good signs.”
Asked if Saka is losing robustness, Arteta replied: “It’s been different in the last year or so, obviously the demands for ever player are immense, the intensity of those matches, the time between games is getting narrower, we played Sunday, then Wednesday and now Saturday, every hour is important.
“If they [the football authorities] can support the amount we are putting into these players, it would be really appreciated.
“We have to play three times in less than six games, the games are so demanding, we are chasing until the last minute.”
Arteta, though, rejected the suggestion Saka was suffering from burnout having helped England to third place in the World Cup in the summer and featured in three of the Three Lions’ UEFA Nations League matches during the recent international break.
“I don’t have that feeling at all,” Arteta said.
“Certainly what we have to be mindful of is creating the right ecosystem around a player to fulfil his qualities.”
