BBC Breakfast hist Sally has been speaking to Prince William as part of new documentary Thank You Sir Kev
BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent thinks the Prince Of Wales is “in awe” of Kevin Sinfield’s achievements – just like the rest of the country.
The TV presenter, 55, has interviewed Prince William as part of tonight’s BBC documentary Thank You Kev. It profiles the former rugby star’s incredible friendship with teammate Rob Burrow, who died in 2024, and Kev’s fundraising for people living with MND which has led to him being knighted.
Sally said: “Whenever I go and film with Kevin’s team or we’re out on a challenge, the people who come up to talk to him or who turn up to cheer, they are in awe of him. They’re almost speechless as he runs past. Young and old, men and women, children, everybody. They are in awe of him because of what he’s doing and what he has done.

“And I think I did sense a little bit of that from the prince as well. It’s a really common theme. Whenever you talk to anyone about Kevin, they’re just like, I don’t know how he is doing this.
“You always try and put yourself in that situation. How would I cope with a marathon? Then another marathon and another marathon? He just keeps going. And I think that’s what unites us. This huge respect we have for what he’s put himself through for the cause.”
Sally admitted to having “a few nerves” ahead of her interview with Prince William, but was also excited to discuss Kevin and Rob with him. The chat forms a key part of Thank You Sir Kev, which covers Kevin’s ultramarathon exploits, childhood and career, when he played with Rob for Leeds and England, before raising £13million for MND causes.
Giving an insight into the Prince’s comments, Sally added: “The interesting thing with William is when he talks about Kev’s style of leadership. He’s a man who clearly has studied leadership, and he’s talking about how Kevin’s strengths are the way he leads a team and the way he leads people.
“He does that by being the best version and the best example that he can be for himself, and that’s why people follow him because they respect him.”
The interview between Sally and Prince William took place at Windsor at the end of September. As well as featuring in the documentary, an extended version of her interview will air on BBC Breakfast this morning.
And the royals have kept a close eye on Rob and Kev’s exploits over the years and been supportive behind the scenes. Sally said: “This is an interview that has been years in the making. We first talked about it when Rob was alive, and we tried to make it happen and it just didn’t work out for different reasons and so we’ve always been keen to do it.
“Quietly behind the scenes, the prince and princess have been hugely supportive of Rob and now Lindsay and the children, in a way that hasn’t always been in the public eye. I think what better moment than at the end of all the challenges to talk to the Prince of Wales about Kevin, but also Rob and also Lindsay[Rob’s widow] and the children, because for William, they’re all very much combined.
“It’s all about the friendships, the loyalty, and the love between them all.”
Thank you, Sir Kev is available on BBC iPlayer from 6am today and on BBC One at 8pm tonight. (MUST REF)
