San Diego Shooting, Who Was Amin Abdullah? The Heroic Security Guard Saved Children At The Mosque

On Monday, i.e. May 18, 2026, a shooting incident at the Islamic Centre of San Diego, California, grabbed all the attention. The shooting incident claimed 3 lives, as reported, after which the suspects, who were claimed to be teenagers, were identified. 

The suspects were found dead in a nearby car, which was a few blocks away from the mosque, and the duo passed away from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, as reported. San Diego Police Department Assistant Chief Scott Wahl, while addressing the incident, spoke about one of the victims. As per Wahl, it was the security guard who passed away during the shooting incident. The officials have tagged him as hero, as reportedly, his actions prevented the entire incident from being even deadlier. So, who was the security guard? Let’s know about him!

Who was Amin Abdullah? A security guard who saved children during the San Diego shooting

San Diego Police Department Assistant Chief Scott Wahl revealed that the security guard, Amin Abdullah took quick action and minimised the carnage. Amin was on his duty when the shooting erupted. As per Wahl, the officials believe that Amin was able to help and at least minimise the situation in the front area of the mosque. Wahl further mentioned that Amin’s actions were ‘heroic’ and that he saved lives. As per the reports, three people were killed, and one of them was Amin. A fundraiser page was set up for Amin’s family to help them after his passing. Speaking about Amin, Wahl shared:

“We do believe the security guard was able to help at least minimize the situation to the front area of the mosque. I think it’s fair to say that his actions were heroic at this point,” Wahl remarked. “Undoubtedly, he saved lives today.”

On the other hand, Omar Suleiman, founder of the non-profit organisation Yaqeen Institute, revealed that Amin had been working as a security guard at the Islamic Centre of San Diego, California, for a long time, and during the shooting incident, he was instrumental in minimising the carnage. It was also revealed that Amin stopped the shooters from reaching the children present in the mosque during the shooting. His last post also made rounds on social media, wherein he added that to many people, success is finance and gains, and to him, it is to return to the creator with the same pure soul he was loaned him during his birth.

One of the suspects’ moms warned police about her son going missing with guns

For the unversed, the suspects were identified as Cain Clark and Caleb Vazquez. According to Walh, one of their moms called 911 and warned police about her son being on the run. She also shared that several guns were missing from their family home, and her car was also gone. As per Wahl, the mom also reported that her son was with a ‘companion’ and the guns that were missing from their family home, included a 9mm handgun, a shotgun, and a Mini-14 rifle. One of the suspects’ moms also mentioned that her son was suicidal, and even a suicide note was received, however, the content of the same hasn’t been disclosed. However, NBC News reported that the suicide note contained references to racial pride.
