Radio 2 host, Sara Cox, made a disparaging comment about Emmerdale star, Patsy Kensit, back when she says she was ‘young and silly’ on Channel 4’s The Girlie Show

Sara Cox has praised Patsy Kensit after making a vile comment about her on live TV. The Radio 2 host, 51, made the jibe when the Emmerdale star was married to Liam Gallagher on Channel 4’s The Girlie Show, which Sara presented aged 21.

Mum-of-three, Sara, who has just bagged a coveted role presenting Radio 2’s Breakfast slot, got an audition on the irreverent chat show after being scouted while she was a model. However, while live on the programme, which featured segments including ‘W****r of the Week’, she made a nasty comment about Pasty, telling the actress: “Your lips are like your knees. They never meet.”

“Shortly after that I saw Liam Gallagher backstage at Top of the Pops and he wasn’t overly impressed with me,” Sara has now admitted, adding: “I was quietly devastated because I loved Oasis.”

Speaking to The Times about Patsy’s “classy” response after being publicly humiliated by Sara, the radio host said: “I went to Nobu and Patsy Kensit was there and she waved me over.

“She was so friendly and classy. It was either the ultimate kill-it-with-kindness or she hadn’t seen the telly or she just thought I was young and silly and who cares? I’ve always really respected her after that.”

Sara shot to fame writing her own monologues on The Girlie Show, which was one of Channel 4’s most popular offerings.

Part of the ‘ladette’ scene with fellow presenter, Zoe Ball, the Boltonian was always hitting the headlines and partied hard.

However, now, Sara is a mum of three and married to marketing executive, Ben Cyzer, after splitting up with DJ Carter. She has also just bagged the coveted role on Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, a job she said she is ready to get stuck into.

Speaking to the outlet, she said: “It’s huge, but I’m ready. I might have to bury my phone in my neighbour’s sandpit a couple of days before because I don’t like people texting me good luck, but the minute I open my mic, I’ll be fine.”

Sara, whose first guest on the show will be Tom Hanks, take over from Gary Davies, who has been filling since Scott Mills was taken off air following after allegations over ‘historic behaviour’.

The Bolton-born DJ previously described the role as a “dream” and said she was “ecstatic, honoured, and incredibly chuffed”.
