The incident took place around 11:15 p.m., when their underage son called emergency services to report that Jeremiah fatally shot Sara before turning the gun on himself. Sara Gilson was heard “screaming and crying” by an emergency dispatcher before being killed by her estranged husband, Jeremiah ‘Shawn’ Duffey. The tragedy occurred at her Oklahoma home and was witnessed by her minor son. The child immediately dialled 911 and called the emergency services. The dispatcher reported hearing Sara screaming for her life in the background. He also heard loud bangs, but didn’t elaborate as to whether they were gunshot noises or something else.
Shortly after hearing the cries and noise, the call was disconnected, following which the dispatcher tried to call back. However, he probably couldn’t reach the caller anymore. The dispatcher likely heard Sara Gilson’s final cries for help before her estranged husband fatally shot her. Sharing the poignant details, the 911 call dispatcher stated:
“I’m trying to reach him back, but I could hear a female in the background screaming and crying. Some sort of loud bang in the background.”

Sara Gilson was a well-known LA-based TikToker with thousands of followers. Not just her; her estranged husband, Jeremiah, also amassed a massive following on the platform. She used her account to hop on trends and share updates on her life. On July 11, 2026, Sara Gilson shared her take on the popular Netflix documentary social media trend. In the TikTok video, she accused her estranged husband, Jeremiah, of being a paedophile.
Sara revealed that she recently learned about the same and joked about waiting for Netflix to make a documentary about it. Adding the caption, “I wish I was joking,” she wrote:
“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile.”
Notably, when the police found the bodies of Sara and Jeremiah at her home, they reportedly identified him as the man who was wanted for kissing a juvenile. Before killing himself and his estranged wife, Jeremiah used to coach children’s basketball teams. Therefore, he was involved extensively in youth sports within his community. He allegedly used his position to make unwanted advances towards the minor players.
According to court records, a basketball coach allegedly found him alone with a 15-year-old player on his team. Later, that girl’s mother filed for an emergency protective order against Shawn. She alleged that he had sent inappropriate messages to the teenager and asked her out to a hotel room during a tournament. Moreover, he offered her money to keep his behavior and their conversation under wraps.
Some court filings also stated that after being asked about these allegations, Shawn threatened to commit suicide and left the place for some time. Once again, these allegations have surfaced amid multiple legal filings made before the fatal shooting. Following that, Sara Gilson publicly exposing him on social media did not sit right with him, and many think that it was the probable reason why he killed her.
