Nellore veterinary doctor loses ₹32.6 lakh in stock market cyber fraud

In a shocking case of cyber fraud, a government veterinary doctor from Nellore lost ₹32.60 lakh after being lured into a fake stock market investment scheme operated through a WhatsApp group.

The victim, identified as Pagadala Jayaprakash of Saraswathi Nagar, had reportedly been added in February to a WhatsApp group named “India Wealth Horizon 64” by unknown individuals.

According to the complaint made by the veterinarian, members of the group, including a person named Dr. Rajeev Singh, convinced him that investments through a platform called “Alpha Alliance ARBITRAGE FII,” compliant with SEBI regulations, would yield high returns.

Trusting the claims, Jayaprakash opened an account on a mobile application named “MARK” and began transferring money in multiple instalments between March 16 and April 15. The funds had been routed through various bank accounts, including IndusInd Bank, SBI, and HDFC, as well as digital payment platforms.

The fraud got exposed on April 13, when the veterinarian attempted to withdraw his earnings. The scammers demanded an additional ₹5 lakh as “personal tax” to process the withdrawal. Even after paying the amount, the victim did not receive any funds, leading to realisation that he has been duped.

Jayaprakash lodged a complaint on April 21 through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930. He later approached the Dargamitta Police Station. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

The case highlights the growing menace of cyber frauds exploiting the lure of quick profits through fake investment platforms. Authorities have once again asked people to remain cautious, avoid trusting unsolicited investment offers on social media, and verify the authenticity of financial schemes before investing.
