The Supreme Court noted progress in the Sunjay Kapur family trust dispute. The court described the ongoing mediation as quite satisfactory. It extended the deadline for the settlement process until November 2.

The legal battle involves Rani Kapur and her daughter-in-law Priya Kapur. Rani is the mother of late industrialist Sunjay. She filed a petition questioning the validity of the RK Family Trust. She alleged that the trust documents were forged and fraudulent. She sought to stop Priya Kapur from managing family assets.

Sunjay Kapur was the former chairman of Sona Comstar. He passed away in June 2025 during a polo match in England. Following his demise, the dispute over asset control intensified between family members.

Former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is serving as the mediator. The top court appointed him in May to help resolve the conflict. Financial and tax experts are also assisting in the process.

The bench urged both sides to approach the talks with an open heart. The court expressed hope for an amicable resolution. However, the bench stated it will hear arguments on merits if mediation fails.
