Hyderabad:Professor Jayashankar Telangana agricultural university’s month-long “Scientists at Farmers’ Doorstep” programme concluded on Saturday, with agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Vice Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah highlighting its role in strengthening farm awareness and modernising cultivation practices.
Launched on April 27 at Raghunadhapalem in Khammam district as part of the 99-day ‘Praja Palana — Prajala Pragathi’ programme, the initiative covered 1,600 villages across 32 districts over four weeks. According to Prof. Janaiah, nearly 400 agricultural scientists, 1,000 students and around 600 agriculture department staff directly interacted with about 2.5 lakh farmers, explaining six key farm-related topics, including reduced urea use, soil health protection, crop rotation, water conservation, organic farming and choosing market-demand crops.
Taking part in a programme at the university campus at Rajendranagar, the agriculture minister underscored the importance of technologies as the shortage of agriculture labour is expected to intensify in the coming days. He inspected the centre for digital agriculture and technology, where he reviewed drone-based research, robotics and sensor-based laboratories developed with SBI’s CSR support.
He also inaugurated the Seed Week-2026 and distributed quality breeder seeds to farmers. He urged farmers to rely on certified seeds, avoid being misled by company claims, choose profitable crops with market demand and adopt crop rotation for better yields and lower costs.
