Scotland came from behind to beat 10-man Curacao 4-1 in their final game on home soil before they head to North America for the 2026 World Cup.

Curacao, set to become the smallest nation to feature at a World Cup finals, stunned Hampden Park when former Manchester United man Tahith Chong fired Dick Advocaat’s side in front.

But the game turned after a moment of madness led to Jurgen Locadia being sent off.

Scotland took advantage as Findlay Curtis levelled, before a Lawrence Shankland brace and a Ryan Christie penalty rounded off an ultimately comfortable win.

Scotland claim comeback win

Having signed a contract extension until 2030 this week, Scotland boss Steve Clarke had more reason for concern than celebration in the 17th minute as Chong put Curacao ahead.

Scotland failed to deal with a long ball forward and allowed Chong to race onto it and into the box, his energy matched by his composure as he cut past a defender and fired a left-footed finish in off the post.

But Curacao’s hopes of an upset essentially went with Locadia’s loss of discipline, his yellow card for elbowing Aaron Hickey off the ball upgraded to a red following a VAR review.

Billy Gilmour was then forced off through injury for Scotland, but his replacement Curtis restored parity in fine fashion by shooting through the legs of a defender and across Eloy Room in the 45th minute.

Shankland and Christie were each denied by Room as Scotland began to dominate proceedings in the second half. However, there was nothing the Curacao goalkeeper could do to prevent Shankland turning in Christie’s clever ball to the near post following a well-worked corner routine.

The new Rangers striker than lashed in a second after being teed up by Lyndon Dykes, and Christie got the goal he deserved nine minutes from the end of normal time, sending Room the wrong way after Curtis was brought down by a sliding challenge.
