The NFL world is waiting to see whether Aaron Donald comes out of retirement this summer.
The star pass rusher has the chance to team up with Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, who the Rams traded for in the offseason. Speculation about Donald’s return has dominated the news cycle, but the three-time Defensive Player of the Year hasn’t made any firm decision on a potential comeback.
Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed he’s run into Donald and weighed in on what he expects to happen next.
“I have crossed paths with Aaron Donald,” McVay said during an appearance on the The Daily Flock podcast with Jason LaCanfora. “And what he’s going to do is, he is thinking about this. He’s going to go through his process. And the one thing about Aaron Donald is, what he does, he does it full speed ahead.”
Donald has certainly considered a return to the NFL ahead of the 2026 season, and has said he’s interested in a comeback, but the Rams have been reluctant to apply pressure on the 35-year-old.
TMZ reported the defensive tackle was spotted working out at the Rams practice facility in Woodland Hills last week.
Donald announced his retirement in March 2024 after the Rams’ season ended in the NFC divisional round to the Philadelphia Eagles. The conclusion of the campaign wasn’t the perfect curtain call for such a decorated pass rusher, but Donald’s 10 seasons with LA were nothing short of impressive.
Even the possibility of Donald’s return has sparked excitement amongst Rams fans as the reunion would add to the buzz surrounding LA’s chances of winning a Super Bowl next season.
