Seema Receives Heavy Rainfall, AP To Have Heatwave In Next Two Days

Visakhapatnam: The state disaster management authority has said Andhra Pradesh would witness a mix of thunderstorms, lightning and intense heatwave conditions over the next two days.

The southwest monsoons have been active over Rayalaseema with many areas receiving heavy rainfall since Saturday, IMD, Amaravati has said.

Its report on Sunday said Kurnool received the highest rainfall of 9cm and Anantapur 8 cm since Saturday.

Senior scientist at IMD Amaravati, S Karunasagar, said conditions were favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, some parts of Telangana and remaining parts of TamilNadu and southwest Bay of Bengl, some more parts of west central and northwest Bay of Bengal and some parts of the northeastern states in the next two to three days.

Karunasagar said other than Rayalaseema, north Andhra parts of Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Parvathipuram Manyam districts received good rainfall.

The state disaster management authority’s managing director Prakhar Jain said, “A trough extending from Karnataka to the coastal Andhra region is likely to trigger light to moderate rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in several parts of the state on Monday and Tuesday.”

Districts including Alluri Sitarama Raju, Polavaram, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and YSR Kadapa are expected to receive scattered thundershowers, while isolated rainfall is also likely in other districts.

Heatwave conditions are expected to persist across large parts of Andhra Pradesh. Severe heatwave conditions are likely in 56 mandals, while another 67 mandals may experience heatwave conditions on Monday. The districts most likely to be affected include Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Polavaram, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna and Prakasam.

Maximum temperatures ranging between 42°C and 44°C are expected in parts of north coastal and Godavari districts, while several districts in central and Rayalaseema regions may record temperatures between 40°C and 42°C.

IMD said a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bapatla with a temperature departure of 5 degrees Celsius followed by Narsapur which recorded 40.4 degrees Celsius with a temperature departure of 4.9 degrees.
