Director Sekhar Kammula has expressed his concern over the growing use of violence in commercial cinema, cautioning filmmakers against assuming that bloodshed and excessive action are the only ingredients for box office success. Speaking in a recent interview with a Telugu channel, the filmmaker said audiences continue to seek stories that establish a strong emotional connection with them.
He pointed out that the success of a particular film does not necessarily mean its style will become a lasting industry trend. Trends keep changing, but audience expectations remain rooted in good storytelling. According to him, whether it is an action-packed entertainer or a quiet, relationship-driven drama, any film can find its audience if its story and emotions are presented honestly and convincingly.
Sekhar Kammula also emphasised that sincere filmmaking and good art have the ability to stand the test of time. His filmmaking philosophy is reflected in films such as Anand, Godavari and Fidaa, which won audiences over through relatable characters, relationships and everyday emotions rather than excessive commercial elements.
His last release was Kuberaa, starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna, which hit the screens in 2025. Asked about his next project, the director revealed that work is currently underway and said he would announce details about it in a couple of months.
