Chennai: The exodus from the AIADMK continued on Tuesday with senior leader and former Minister C Vijaybhaskar resigning from the MLA post by calling on Speaker J C D Prabhakar at the Secretariat and blaming a ‘single leader’ of causing pain to him and the party through his unilateral decisions.

Vijaybhaskar’s exit from the AIADMK marked the resignation of the fifth MLA from the party, reducing the strength of its members in the Assembly from 47 to 42. Apart from that a plethora of leaders had migrated to the ruling TVK already.

Though Vijaybhaskar, in a statement, said that he was leaving the party that he had been associated with for 35 years since his student days with a heavy heart, the grapevine has it that he was also headed towards the TVK that has been drawing people from other parties ever since it came to power.

Of the bigger parties, the biggest loss of members has been to the AIADMK. Given Vijaybaskar’s experience in ministerial positions and his seniority in politics, it is believed that he would join the TVK at the right moment and might also be appropriately rewarded.

He was one of the 25 MLAs who voted for the TVK in the floor test that saved the government from falling. He also said in his statement that his service to the community would continue, indicating that he was not bidding adieu to politics completely.
