Visakhapatnam: As part of the International Yoga Day celebrations, Parvathipuram Manyam district collector Dr N. Prabhakar Reddy on Saturday organised a special “Thematic Yoga” programme for senior citizens at the Government Junior College grounds in the district headquarters.
The collector, who attended as chief guest, participated in the session alongside senior citizens and performed various yoga asanas. He said yoga and pranayama were effective in managing age-related health issues such as joint pain, diabetes, hypertension, respiratory ailments, stress and insomnia.
Experts guided participants through simple postures tailored to the physical abilities of the elderly, ensuring safety and accessibility.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Prabhakar Reddy said the theme was chosen to highlight the health needs of senior citizens. He urged pensioners, members of senior citizens’ associations and the public to incorporate yoga into their daily routine.
He said regular practice could help maintain good health and improve the quality of life in old age.
District revenue officer K. Hemalatha, ITDA project officer Pawar Swapnil Jagannath, municipal commissioner D. Pavani, yoga instructors and representatives of voluntary organisations participated in the programme.
