An unforeseen and incredible start to the season looks set to cost Liverpool. They’ll have to pivot from here.
Liverpool are weighing up their transfer plans for 2027 and that means both the winter and summer windows. It’s clear to all that more is needed to balance this squad out, after all, and the hard work starts now.

And there’s no question that January signings would be ideal. There’s a sense that Liverpool are close to having a competitive squad and that just a couple of signings – or even just the right one – could move them up a level.
Much like, it has to be said, signing Virgil van Dijk back in 2018.
But there’s a problem. Liverpool have their eyes on two players from the same club and that club is now thriving. Enough that we’re not sure they’re still open for business.
AS Monaco throw a spanner in the works
Liverpool continue to watch Paris Brunner, Anfield Watch understands. The striker has been on their watchlist for a little while but no one saw a start to the season this good.

Brunner has six goals in seven games to start the campaign. He’s been electric and alongside another Liverpool target, Lamine Camara, he’s a primary reason why Monaco top Ligue 1.
Liverpool approached AS Monaco at the end of the transfer window to alert them to their interest in Camara. Brunner, if things move in a certain way, could also be a top target next year.
And that makes Monaco’s form a bit of a problem. They’re thriving and beat RC Lens 2-1 on Friday night to go top. But it means their targets for the season are gradually changing.
We figured Liverpool might be able to strike a deal for Camara, or even Brunner, in January. That looked semi-likely, in fact. Now? We’re not sure Monaco would see any wisdom in such a deal and we fully expect them to put off sales until the summer.

Keeping Camara, for instance, could be the difference between a title challenge or falling down the table. If it’s simply the difference between UEFA Champions League qualification or not, there’s absolutely no sense in selling.
Especially when his form would guarantee the same price tag in the summer. Selling in the winter just looks nonsensical now.
