The Seven Network’s Mount Coot-tha broadcasting site has been listed for sale just over a month after neighbouring TV station Nine placed their studios on the market.

Seven acquired the Sir Samuel Griffith Drive facility in 1959, and continues to broadcast its flagship news program from the site.

A spokesperson for Southern Cross Media – which was formed from a merger between Southern Cross Austereo and Seven West Media earlier this year – said the sale was part of a re-evaluation of the company’s long-term needs.

“While commercial details remain confidential, this ongoing process focuses on positioning the business for sustainable growth well into the future,” the spokesperson said.

Southern Cross Media also owns several Brisbane radio stations, including Triple M and Hit 105.

The 3.85-hectare Seven Network property spans three titles and contains extensive infrastructure including offices, television studios and broadcast towers, and a helipad.

The location was listed by commercial real estate agency Savills.

The same agency represented Nine when the media group – which owns this masthead – listed its Queensland broadcast studios for sale in early September.

An internal email sent to Nine employees said the listing was primarily to test market interest.

Savills maintained Seven was firm on a sale for its site.

The two television station properties are separated by about 500 metres of council-owned bushland.

In its listing for the Seven site, Savills said the site offered “potential for adaptive reuse and revitalisation, subject to all relevant approvals”.

The site was open to offers until November 12.
