Shah Rukh Khan Gets Supreme Court Relief As Plea Against Mannat Renovation Is Dismissed

Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic residence, Mannat, is more than just a home. Over the years, it has become one of Mumbai’s most recognisable landmarks, drawing countless fans and tourists who gather outside its gates every day. As the superstar continues renovation work on the sea-facing bungalow, he has now received a legal boost from the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition challenging the renovation of Mannat, allowing the approved construction work, including the addition of two new floors, to continue.

According to Live Law, the petition sought to quash the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance granted for the project, alleging that the required environmental norms and statutory approvals had not been complied with. The petitioner also contended that prior environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change was mandatory before the renovation could proceed.

However, a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohan declined to entertain the plea.

The petition was filed by Mumbai-based activist Santosh Daundkar, who had challenged an earlier order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Daundkar had questioned the NGT’s September 2025 ruling, which upheld the CRZ clearance granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) for the project.

During the hearing, senior advocate Shoeb Alam, appearing for the petitioner, argued that the project, reportedly valued at over ₹5 crore, required environmental clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. He further alleged that the approvals granted for the renovation did not meet the prescribed environmental standards.

The dispute dates back to January 2025, when the MCZMA approved SRK’s proposal to add the seventh and eighth floors to Mannat. Challenging this approval, Daundkar approached the NGT. However, the tribunal dismissed the plea, observing that the original structure predates the 1991 Coastal Regulation Zone notification and that only two additional floors were being constructed after securing the necessary municipal permissions.
