It’s been about a year since Shefali Jariwala left the world. Her husband, Parag Tyagi, is still unable to come to terms with the loss of his favourite person. Recently, on July 22, 2026, their beloved pet pug Simba passed away, and Parag shared the news on Instagram. The couple loved Simba deeply and considered him to be their son. With their furry friend’s passing, Parag hopes that his late wife reunites with Simba in the afterlife.
Amid the sad incident, Shefali and Parag’s past has come under the spotlight once again. Notably, before the duo’s union, she was in an abusive relationship with her ex-husband, Harmeet Singh. Here’s everything we know about it.
Shefali Jariwala suffered a lot during her marriage with first husband Harmeet Singh
Shefali Jariwala was once in an abusive marriage with her first husband, musician Harmeet Singh. Harmeet is one half of the popular musical duo, Meet Bros. Shefali discussed surviving an emotionally tormenting marriage before she met the forever love of her life, Parag Tyagi. The Kaanta Laga fame married Harmeet Singh in 2004. Their marriage lasted for five years before ending in a bitter divorce in 2009 following allegations of abuse.

Notably, Shefali highlighted the fact that Harmeet never physically abused her, but the psychological torment was unbearable for her. She cited that a lack of appreciation and continuous mental violence left her very unhappy. She stated that “not every kind of violence is physical”; however, mental distress also affects one just as much. Detailing the psychological violence allegedly inflicted upon her by her ex-husband, Harmeet Singh, she told Times Now:
“It is very important to understand that you are not being appreciated. Not every kind of violence is physical. There is a lot of mental violence that also happens, and you are very unhappy in your life.”
Back in 2009, society was not as accepting of divorce as it is now, and so walking away from her marriage was quite difficult for Shefali. Regardless, Shefali Jariwala took the big step and commended herself for being brave enough to do so. She credited her upbringing for helping her disregard societal pressure and do what was right. The model also noted that being financially independent and earning her own money was one of the biggest factors that enabled her to leave her then-husband and go solo.
Shefali Jariwala was shattered and afraid to fall in love again due to her failed first marriage
After going through a broken marriage with Harmeet Singh, Shefali Jariwala was petrified to the core to fall in love ever again. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she revealed how she was affected after her divorce with Harmeet Singh. Talking about the same, Shefali stated:
“When that happens to you, you think it’s the end of the world, it is difficult, you think ‘what has happened?’ I was so young when I got married and I got divorced. It was very difficult for me but I had a very strong support system – my family, my friends and everybody – so I was able to deal with it.”

Shefali further stated that she was so broken that she could not even think of falling in love again, let alone getting married. Sharing her lost faith in relationships, she told the media outlet:
“And then, there were times when you stop believing in love. You go through that phase where you are like, ‘I don’t think I’ll ever get into a relationship again, shaadi toh bohot door ki baat hain. But it passes.”
However, love knocks at the door when one least expects it, and so was the case with Shefali Jariwala as well. She found love in Parag Tyagi once again, and they tied the knot in 2014. The couple remained married till her death on June 27, 2025 and he got her face tattooed on his chest after her passing.
