BENGALURU: Prior to his assuming charge as Chief Minister on Wednesday, D.K. Shivakumar resigned as president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). The fallen vacant post will be filled-up by Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad. Shivakumar said “I resigned as KPCC president this morning.”

General Secretary of All India Congress Committee K.C. Venugopal stated B.K. Hariprasad is the president of KPCC with immediate effect. Venugopal appreciated the contributions of outgoing KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar.

Hariprasad earlier served as Rajya Sabha member in 1990, 2004, 2013 and 2014. From June 2022, he was a Member of Legislative Council and served as the Leader of Opposition in Council from January, 2022 to 2023.

Sources said Hariprasad was eyeing a Ministerial berth but ended up becoming a president of KPCC.
