HYDERABAD: Union labour minister Shobha Karandlaje lashed out at the `INDI alliance’

and Congress leaders for allegedly betraying women and the people of South
India by defeating the legislation meant to implementation reservations for
women and delimit constituencies. She also accused Chief Minister A. Revanth
Reddy of not delivering on the guarantees and assurances made to the people.

Speaking to mediapersons at the state party office at Nampally along with

BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao, Mahbubnagar MP D.K. Aruna and Mahila
Morcha president Dr Shilpa Reddy, Karandlaje asked why the Chief Minister
should not be booked for alleged cheating for failing to deliver on the
promises of ₹2,500 financial assistance to poor women, one tola gold for
married women, and ₹4,000 social welfare pension.

Claiming that April 17, when the Bills were defeated, as a black day for

women in India, Karandlaje said: “Why does the Congress want delimitation of
constituencies only after the upcoming census?” She claimed that the
Congress wanted to divide the country by raking up a South vs. North
narrative.

“The intention of the Congress and INDI alliance is anti-national — they
want to ‘tukde tukde’ the country by raking up South vs. North divisions.
Even after home minister Amit Shah assured necessary amendments to increase

seats by 50 per cent for all states, why didn’t the Opposition accept it,”
Karandlaje asked and provided the answer: “Because they have a strategic,
pre-planned conspiracy to divide the country.”

Claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to implement women’s
reservation and delimitation to benefit women and people of the South from
the 2029 elections, Karandlaje said data from the ongoing census, now

including the caste census would be completed after 2031. The women’s
reservation bill has been pending for the 30 years since its introduction in
1996, but the Congress ditched it, she alleged.

Karandlaje listed several Central government initiatives benefiting women
and charged that the Congress wanted women from a single family to lead in
politics. She said no one in her own family was in politics, which is why
the Prime Minister gave her a chance.

Asked why not a single woman MP from the Opposition parties supported the
women’s reservation Bill, Karandlaje only said that they were welcome to
join the ruling party.
