Arasan, the much-awaited collaboration between Silambarasan TR and Vetri Maaran, has resumed production. Producer Kalaippuli S Thanu confirmed the latest development with a behind-the-scenes photograph from the sets, signalling that the team is back at work following the completion of a major shooting schedule.
Sharing the picture on social media, Thanu simply captioned the post, “Arasan Back in Action.” The film is being produced by Thanu under his V Creations banner and is positioned as an untold story from the world of Vada Chennai.
The latest update comes shortly after the team completed an extensive schedule that involved months of night shoots. Silambarasan had earlier revealed that the demanding schedule had continued for more than two months, with the actor joking that his “circadian rhythm is officially confused.” The team subsequently wrapped the major leg of filming, with Silambarasan sharing a video from the sets that showed Vetri Maaran discussing a scene with him.
With production now underway again, Arasan appears to be moving steadily towards completing its remaining portions. The makers have so far maintained considerable secrecy around the plot, choosing instead to offer glimpses of the film’s world and its characters.
The Vada Chennai connection
Arasan was announced in September 2025 and went on floors in December that year. While it exists within the universe established by Vetri Maaran’s 2018 crime drama Vada Chennai, the new film is not a direct continuation of Dhanush’s Anbu character’s story.
Interestingly, the screenplay for Arasan has its roots in an earlier version of the Vada Chennai story that Vetri Maaran had developed when Silambarasan was originally attached to headline the project. The director has since reworked that material into a separate story within the same world.
The film brings back Samuthirakani and Andrea Jeremiah as Guna and Chandra respectively, reprising their characters from Vada Chennai. Vijay Sethupathi is also part of the ensemble and is expected to play a police officer. Yogi Babu, Yogalakshmi and Jibin Gopinath round out the principal cast, with Yogalakshmi previously confirming that she plays Silambarasan’s love interest.
A new creative collaboration
Arasan also marks the first time Vetri Maaran and Anirudh Ravichander are collaborating on a feature film. Anirudh’s music was prominently featured in the first glimpse of the film released in October 2025, with the track subsequently released as the Arasan theme.
The film’s technical crew includes Vetri Maaran’s frequent collaborator R Velraj as director of photography. Velraj, who has worked with the filmmaker on projects including Polladhavan and Aadukalam, also directed Velaiyilla Pattathaari in 2014. R Ramar is handling the editing, while action choreographer Peter Hein is part of the technical team.
The combination of Silambarasan, Vetri Maaran, Anirudh and the Vada Chennai universe has made Arasan one of the most closely watched Tamil projects in production. The first glimpse offered a taste of the film’s gritty world, while the intense shooting schedules have suggested the scale of the filmmaker’s latest outing.
The makers are currently working towards a theatrical release during the Deepavali season. With the shoot now back on track, more details about Arasan and its characters could emerge as the film moves closer to completion.
