Olympic gold medallist Sir Mo Farah hit headlines for his behaviour at the London Marathon

Olympic legend Sir Mo Farah came to the rescue of a stricken runner during the London Marathon, with heartwarming footage of the moment spreading far and wide. It was a touching moment from the Team GB star, who has previously been part of the group of elite runners aiming to win the race.

Sir Mo was an official starter for Sunday’s race, alongside England star and Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Ellie Kildunne. He was returning to the course for the first time since hanging up his spikes and was on hand to pass on his wealth of knowledge to some of the less experienced runners taking part.

The four-time Olympic champion sprung into action just over two miles from the finish line. A runner had pulled up with cramp right beside where he was standing on the sidelines, grinding to a halt alongside the barriers on Victoria Embankment, grimacing with a severe cramp in his leg.

The sight of Sir Mo standing on the other side of the barriers was just what the stricken runner needed. The 43-year-old showed his true character, demonstrating to the stranger exactly how to stretch out his leg to ease the pain.

In footage shared on TikTok, the runner could be seen following the Olympic great’s lead as he poured water over his legs. He even adjusted his technique for the stretch as Sir Mo continued to offer him guidance.

Following a brief exchange with the Team GB star, who had taken part in the I’m A Celebrity… South Africa final less than 48 hours earlier, the runner felt confident enough to get going once more. He rejoined the field while sipping from a bottle of water and continued the journey towards the finish line.

The clip of the encounter has already racked up nearly half a million views on TikTok and garnered more than 100,000 likes. It was captioned: “Sir Mo Farah helping a stranger with a cramp at mile 24 of the London Marathon. What a guy @sirmofarah,” with viewers rushing to praise the Olympian for his kindness.

“That man is such an inspiration to his children,” one comment read. Another viewer added: “How can you not love Mo Farah? A true national treasure.”

A third said: “He was handing out advice, water and muscle rubs where needed….a true hero,” with yet a fourth describing Sir Mo as a “national treasure and legend” and yet another suggesting the runner would “Remember that forever”.

Sir Mo was also seen running alongside Jordan Adams of the FTD Brothers, who completed the marathon carrying a 25kg fridge on his back. Adams took the unconventional step as he sought to represent the weight of his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis – the same condition that claimed his mother’s life at the age of just 52.
