Hyderabad:The BRS has said that the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll must be extended beyond its deadline of July 24. Party working president K.T. Rama Rao, after meeting the party committee set up to monitor SIR’s progress, said that the booth-level officers (BLOs) appointed by the Election Commission were failing to properly educate voters about the process in many places.

“Only seven per cent of voters have filled and submitted the forms. It is doubtful whether the remaining 93 per cent could be completed by the July 24 deadline. Considering the ground-level situation, the SIR deadline should be extended,” Rama Rao said.

He announced that a BRS delegation would soon travel to Delhi to meet the Central Election Commission to discuss the party’s concerns on the SIR process. He also said the BRS will reiterate its previous demand on the strict implementation of the rule that one person should have only one vote at one location.

While the Election Commission was focusing on eliminating duplicate voters within districts, it is ignoring the fact that the same voter could be listed in voter rolls in different states, Rama Rao said, adding that the BRS had submitted a representation to the State Chief Electoral Officer on this issue.
