Vijayawada:Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna has reportedly recovered key material evidence, including a lathi with suspected stains, bones, burnt ash, a partially burnt steel wrist chain and other articles, from the terrace of the Krishnalanka police station.
The SIT seized the entire material and sent it for forensic examination.
In the interim, SIT filed a lunch motion petition before the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday, seeking permission to interrogate the main accused, suspended circle inspector S.S.V.V. Nagaraju at the Krishnalanka police station, where the alleged offence took place.
The SIT has also challenged in the High Court the conditions imposed by the Second Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court while granting eight days’ police custody of the accused from July 3 to July 10.
The single-judge bench of the High Court headed by Justice K. Maheswara Rao heard the SIT’s petition.
According to the SIT, its investigation has found that the accused CI allegedly failed to inform Sai Krishna’s mother Vijayalakshmi and other relatives about Sai Krishna’s custody. Instead, inspector Nagaraju threatened and abused them.
The SIT further alleged that the accused deliberately concealed the fact that Sai Krishna had already been apprehended at Markapur and brought to the Krishnalanka police station, thereby attempting to screen the offender and obstruct the course of justice.
The SIT informed the court that CCTV footage covering the period from May 1 to June 1, 2026, had been unavailable in the DVR/NVR system at the police station. It stated that Sai Krishna’s body is yet to be traced. The investigating agency said efforts are continuing to probe the alleged disappearance of the body and destruction of evidence.
Appearing for the SIT, counsel Menda Lakshminarayana argued that reconstruction of the crime scene is essential as the alleged offence occurred within the Krishnalanka police station. The counsel submitted that conducting the interrogation at Rajamahendravaram Central Jail would hamper the investigation. It will make it difficult for the entire investigation team to examine the accused effectively.
Counsel for the accused Challa Ajay Kumar submitted that the SIT already has custody of his client until July 10. It could complete the interrogation within the permitted period. Further, the SIT could seek an extension of custody if required.
After hearing both the sides, the High Court adjourned the matter to Sunday at 10:30 am. The High Court, however, declined to stay the conditions imposed by the magistrate court without first hearing the accused.
Earlier, Nagaraju had informed the magistrate through video conference that the SIT has falsely implicated him in the case and is intimidating him. He claimed innocence and urged the court to prevent his custodial torture.
