Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s gallant knock of 96 was ultimately not enough to prevent the Rajasthan Royals from being knocked out of IPL 2026, and the teenager was shattered. Seeing him so downcast made veteran cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin’s heart heavy.
“If you looked at his face after the match, you could see the sheer disappointment written all over it. This 15-year-old boy is just a little kid, but in his mind, it is always about winning the game for his team,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin, who has been part of the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the past, said “To be honest, I’d say Rajasthan Royals were never in the game from start to finish.” He pointed out that though “Ravindra Jadeja provided a little bit of company, and Donovan Ferreira at the end… nobody gave Sooryavanshi any support.”
Praising the teenage prodigy as “the lone person standing between an RR defeat and a victory,” Ashwin said Sooryavanshi “was fighting out there all by himself.”
Whatever the outcome of the match, Ashwin had only praise for the youngster. “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is incredible,” he said succinctly.
