Hyderabad: Agniveers emerged among the standout performers at the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) Sailing Regatta 2026, with Southern Command clinching the Overall Championship Trophy at the conclusion of the competition held at Hussainsagar on Tuesday.
The closing ceremony of the third edition of the regatta was presided over by Lieutenant General Neeraj Varshney, Commandant of the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME), Colonel Commandant of the Corps of EME and Commodore of the EME Sailing Association.
Addressing participants, Lt Gen. Varshney said the regatta was conceived to revive and strengthen sailing as a competitive sport within the Corps of EME while creating a pool of skilled sailors capable of competing at national, Asian and Olympic levels. He also praised the participation of Agniveers, noting that many had mastered the sport within just two to three weeks of training.
“The regatta will serve as a stepping stone to major sailing events, including the ILCA Open Sailing Competition and Hyderabad Sailing Week,” he said.
In the ILCA-6 category, Agniveer Patil Anuraj secured first place, followed by Sepoy Mahesh in second and Agniveer Patil Siddhesh in third. In the ILCA-7 category, Agniveer Harsh Tiwari finished first, while Lt Col Mayank Srivastav and Maj Lanka Kiran secured second and third places respectively.
The event marked the culmination of the Corps of EME’s efforts to promote competitive sailing and develop talent within its ranks, with participants from across formations taking part in the regatta.
