Special Drive to Enroll New, Left Out Voters During SIR in TN

Chennai: The Election Commission will undertake a special drive across Tamil Nadu to enroll new voters and those left out during the SIR campaign, CEO Archana Patnaik has said.The Chief Electoral Officer, who chaired a meeting in this regard with all district officials on Thursday following instructions from the Election Commission of India, said a special drive will be undertaken across all districts for the enrolment of left out and young/first time eligible electors.

“The Election Commission of India, in its communication dated September 29, 2026, has directed that in States/UTs where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has already been completed, a special drive shall be undertaken by the Chief Electoral Officer, District Election Officers and EROs for the enrolment of left out and young/first time eligible electors under the process of continuous updation,” she said in a release here.

Declaration Form attached with Form 6 will be used during the SIR phase only. For the non-SIR period, the Forms applicable as per the Registration of Electors Rules 1960 will be used, Patnaik said.

The Election Commission on February 23 released the final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu in which 74.07 lakh names of voters were deleted under various categories, leaving the number of electors in the southern state at 5.67 crore.
